Welcome
SOAG is one of the most active, independent archaeology groups in Oxfordshire engaged in excavation and landscape archaeology. We aim to promote an interest in all aspects of archaeology in South Oxfordshire. We welcome people of all ages and experience to take part in excavation, post excavation work, fieldwork and landscape study. We have a full programme of lectures by professional speakers and experienced members, and visits to places of interest.
Roman Villa Excavation
The excavation will be starting again on May 23rd 2010 and will run on most Sundays until the end of October. The excavation is run by SOAG archaeologists, diggers of all levels of ability and experience are welcome. Details of the excavation at the villa can be found on the villa project pages.
Brightwell Baldwin Community History and Archaeology Project (BBCHAP)
BBCHAP is being run in association with SOAG as a Community Archaeology Project . Local volunteers are working alongside SOAG archaeologists to examine the Landscape Archaeology of Brightwell Baldwin and its surrounding parishes. This year's dig took place from July 25th to August 7th. More details can be found on the BBCHAP pages.
The Lost Parish Church of Bix Gibwyn
Operating on behalf of the Victoria County History Oxfordshire survey SOAG is investigating the Medieval manorial centres at Bix Gibwyn and Bix Brand, in particular looking for evidence of the lost parish church of Bix Gibwyn.
The projects involves a variety of archaeological methods including geophysical surveying, trial trenching and research of historic records. More details can be found on the project pages.

Get Involved
SOAG and its members are involved in a variety of other projects including the investigation of an ancient mound and the surveying of Roman roads throughout South Oxfordshire.
Membership of the group allows you to take part in all of these projects as well as receiving a regular newsletter and our annual Bulletin.
